NACE → GHG Scope 3 Category Mapping
NACE master reference
The authoritative lookup used to assign a default GHG Protocol Scope 3 category from a supplier's NACE Rev. 2 code. This is checked first (an exact match on real NACE code) whenever "Mapping Scope & Category to NACE" runs, taking priority over any keyword-based guess from About/Sustainability text. NACE describes a supplier's primary economic activity -- it doesn't by itself determine the correct category for every transaction; the nature of the purchased item/service can override the default (see Alternative Category).

How the ESG Rating is Calculated
Every supplier gets an Overall ESG score (0-100) as a weighted average of three sub-scores -- Environmental 40%, Social 25%, Governance 35% -- converted to a Rating (A1-D) via the Klappir Impact Profile thresholds. There are two ways a supplier's scores get filled in:
1. Baseline (automatic, no AI call, always on)
Used the moment data is uploaded -- no waiting, no API cost. It always starts from whatever Score/Rating/Priority/Disclosure Completion your file already has, and only estimates what's missing:
- Overall Score -- the Score column from your upload, if present. Otherwise derived from Disclosure Completion or a data-completeness ratio.
- Environmental -- the Overall Score, nudged up or down based on the supplier's Sector (already in your data): carbon-intensive sectors like shipping, energy, manufacturing, mining and oil/gas score lower; lower-footprint sectors like software, consulting, financial and legal services score higher.
- Social -- the Overall Score, nudged based on Disclosure Completion (already in your data) as a transparency proxy: below 50% pulls it down, above 50% pulls it up, by up to 10 points.
- Governance -- solved mathematically so 40%×E + 25%×S + 35%×G reconciles exactly back to the Overall Score.
- Rating -- always derived from the Overall Score via the A1-D threshold table (never passed through an arbitrary label from the upload).
- Priority -- your file's Priority column if present; otherwise the Supplier Register's own spend/emissions-weighted priority for matched suppliers.
This is a transparent estimate, not measured E/S/G data -- your files have one overall Score per supplier, not separate E/S/G indicators. It's clearly marked as calculated/estimated everywhere it appears, and is superseded automatically by real AI-verified figures below.
2. AI Research (optional, on-demand, per supplier or bulk)
Triggered from "Verify with AI research" (in a supplier's drawer, or "Verify all with AI research" in Impact Profiles). This calls a live AI model with web search to research the supplier and produce a real E/S/G breakdown, Confidence score and cited sources -- overriding the baseline estimate above wherever it appears. This is the exact prompt sent every time; edit it below and your changes take effect on the next run.
{{NAME}} and {{CONTEXT}} are replaced automatically with the supplier's name and known context (country, sector, spend, emissions). The JSON output shape at the end must stay intact, or results can't be parsed.
Klappir Impact Profile™ -- Functional Specification v1.0
Purpose
The Klappir Impact Profile™ is a standardized supplier sustainability assessment engine that evaluates suppliers based on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance, disclosure quality and procurement risk. It provides a consistent, transparent and auditable supplier assessment that supports:
- ESRS supplier due diligence
- CSRD reporting
- SBTi supplier engagement
- Sustainable procurement
- Supplier risk management
- Internal supplier benchmarking
The assessment produces a numerical score (0-100), an ESG Rating (A1-D), a Confidence Score and a Priority classification.
1. Data Sources
Internal Data
- Supplier name, Country
- Spend, Currency
- Procurement category, UNSPSC
- Estimated Scope 3 emissions
- Strategic supplier flag
- Customer-defined supplier category
Public Data
- Company website, Sustainability/Annual/ESG/Climate Report
- Policies, Certifications
- CDP, SBTi, EcoVadis, UN Global Compact, GRI, ISO Certifications
AI Research Layer
The AI research engine collects and summarizes publicly available information including company overview, sector, environmental impacts, social risks, governance practices, sustainability commitments and public disclosures. Every statement includes a reference to the original source.
2. Assessment Model
Each supplier receives an ESG score from 0-100, made up of three weighted categories:
| Category | Weight |
|---|---|
| Environmental | 40% |
| Social | 25% |
| Governance | 35% |
Environmental (40%)
Environmental Performance (20%) -- Scope 1-3 emissions, carbon intensity, renewable electricity, waste management, water management, circularity, biodiversity
Environmental Management (20%) -- Environmental Policy, EMS, ISO 14001, Climate Targets, Net Zero Target, Science Based Targets, CDP Participation, External Assurance
Social (25%)
Workforce (15%) -- Health & Safety, Employee Training, Diversity, Equal Pay, Employee Turnover, Employee Wellbeing
Human Rights (10%) -- Human Rights Policy, Modern Slavery Statement, Child Labour, Forced Labour, Supply Chain Due Diligence
Governance (35%)
Corporate Governance (20%) -- Board Independence, Board Diversity, Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption, Whistleblower, GDPR, Information Security, ISO 27001
Responsible Business (15%) -- Supplier Code of Conduct, Sustainable Procurement, ESG Reporting, External Assurance, Responsible Sourcing, Tax Transparency
3. Confidence Score
Measures the completeness and reliability of publicly available information. Calculated independently from the ESG Score (maximum 100%). Indicators include Sustainability/Annual/ESG/Climate Report, Scope 1-3 disclosures, Policies, Certifications, SBTi, CDP, EcoVadis, External Assurance. Example: 85% = high confidence, 40% = limited confidence. The Confidence Score must never influence the ESG Score directly -- it indicates the reliability of the assessment, not the score itself.
4. Final ESG Rating
Convert the numerical score into a rating using these thresholds:
| Score | Rating |
|---|---|
| 97-100 | |
| 92-96 | |
| 86-91 | |
| 80-85 | |
| 70-79 | |
| 60-69 | |
| 50-59 | |
| 40-49 | |
| 30-39 | |
| 0-29 |
5. Supplier Priority
Calculated independently from the ESG Rating. Considers Annual Spend, Estimated Scope 3 emissions, Strategic importance, Country Risk, Sector Risk and Confidence Score. Priority values: Critical High Medium Low.
Example: a supplier may receive Rating = A3, Priority = Critical, because the supplier represents 18% of procurement spend.
6. AI Generated Impact Profile
For every supplier, generate:
- Company Overview (~100 words) -- business, markets, ownership, operations
- Sustainability Summary (~150 words) -- Environmental, Social, Governance, Economic resilience
- Value Chain Role -- one sentence
- Key Environmental Impact -- max 5 bullet points
- Key Social Risk -- max 5 bullet points
- Key Governance Risk -- max 5 bullet points
7. Output
Each supplier profile shall contain: Supplier, Website, Telephone, Email, Country, Sector, Company Description, Value Chain Role, Environmental/Social/Governance/Economic Summary, Disclosure Completion, Available Disclosures, Environmental/Social/Governance Score, Overall Score, Rating, Confidence Score, Priority, Sources, Last Updated.
8. User Interface
Display: Overall Score (large numeric), Rating Badge (A1-D), Confidence Gauge (0-100%), Priority Badge (Critical/High/Medium/Low), Radar Chart (Environmental/Social/Governance), Disclosure Completion, Timeline (score history), Comparison (industry average, country average, top suppliers).
9. Future AI Features
The architecture shall support future AI functionality including:
- Automatic supplier monitoring, news monitoring, ESG controversy detection
- Climate target tracking, supplier benchmarking, automatic profile updates
- Automatic supplier questionnaires, supplier recommendations
- Supply chain hotspot analysis
The assessment engine is modular so new indicators and scoring criteria can be added without changing the core architecture.
